AT1-Coco-Anleihen bieten Investoren im Verhältnis zu anderen Segmenten
des Anleihenmarkts attraktive Renditen
Frankfurt – 30. Mai 2018 – WisdomTree, Anbieter von Exchange-Traded Funds („ETF“) und Exchange-Traded Products („ETP“), gab heute die Markteinführung des WisdomTree AT1 CoCo Bond UCITS ETF („Fonds“) an der Deutschen Börse Xetra bekannt.
Es handelt sich hierbei um den weltweit ersten ETF, über den Investoren Zugang zum Markt der Additional Tier 1 (AT1) Contingent Convertible (CoCo)-Anleihen erhalten. In Europa umfasst dieser einen Wert von über 170 Milliarden USD. Der Fonds bietet professionellen Investoren die Möglichkeit, potenziell höhere Renditen zu erzielen als bei einem Investment in vorrangige Bankschuldverschreibungen. Außerdem hilft der Fonds zur Portfoliodiversifizierung bzw. auch zur Abmilderung des Risikos bei steigenden Zinsen durch bestehende Fixed-Income-Instrumente.
Coco-Anleihen sind eine Form von hybriden Verbindlichkeiten, die in Eigenkapital umgewandelt werden bzw. deren Kapital abgeschrieben wird. So sollen die Kapitalverluste des Emittenten bei Eintritt bestimmter Wandlungsauslöser absorbiert werden, etwa wenn der Emittent eine vorab festgelegte Liquiditätsquote unterschreitet. Der Fonds bildet den IHS Markit iBoxx Contingent Convertible Liquid Developed Europe AT1 Index nach, der in Coco-Anleihen investiert, die von Finanzinstituten aus wirtschaftlich starken europäischen Ländern emittiert werden.

„Der europäische Finanzsektor dürfte von dem aktuellen Umfeld steigender Zinsen profitieren, da die Gewinne von Banken davon gegebenenfalls begünstigt werden. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt bei AT1-Coco-Anleihen auf der fundamentalen Stärke der Banken, die diese Wertpapiere emittieren – alles, was sich positiv auf diese Institutionen auswirkt, hat das Potenzial, auch diese Anlageklasse positiv zu beeinflussen. Im Zeitraum, für den historische Daten verfügbar sind, hat ein Investment in AT1-Coco-Anleihen um 4,3 % besser abgeschnitten als europäische Bankanleihen und um 6,4 % besser als europäische Bankaktien3. Kommt es in diesem Sektor weiterhin zu positiven Signalen – so etwa die Veröffentlichung der Ergebnisse aus dem Stresstest der Bank of England im Dezember 2017 – kann es gut sein, dass sich auch diese Anlageklasse weiterhin durch eine starke Performance auszeichnet“, so Gannatti.

AT1-Coco-Anleihen: Eine AT1-Coco-Anleihe verfügt über mehrere Merkmale, die Anleihen ähnlich sind, und andere, die Aktien ähnlich sind. Ähnlich wie bei Anleihen wird für AT1-Coco-Anleihen ein Kupon gezahlt. Für den Wert dieses Kupons gibt es, ähnlich wie bei Aktiendividenden, einen Ermessensspielraum.
Wandlungsauslöser und Verlustabsorptionsmechanismus: Bei Überschreiten der Schwelle eines Wandlungsauslösers, wird ein Verlustabsorptionsmechanismus aktiviert. Es gibt zwei Arten von Wandlungsauslösern: mechanische (eine bestimmte Kapitalschwelle) oder nach Ermessen (aufgrund einer Regulierungsentscheidung). Ebenso gibt es zwei Arten von Verlustabsorptionsmechanismen: Wandlung in Eigenkapital oder Abschreibung des Kapitals. Käme es zur Wandlung einer AT1-Anleihe, würde sie wie eine Aktie bei Kursverlusten gehandelt werden.
Variabler Zinssatz am Ende: Obwohl AT1-Anleihen unbefristet sind, sind sie nach fünf Jahren kündbar. Die Kuponstruktur von AT1-Anleihen umfasst zunächst einen festen Zinssatz, der sich später in einen variablen Zinssatz ändert. Nach dem ersten Kündigungsdatum werden AT1-Kupons variabel und passen sich nach oben an, sollten die Zinsen steigen. Der variable Zinssatz am Ende begrenzt praktisch die Zinssensitivität der Anlageklasse.
iBoxx-Indexregeln: Investiert wird ausschließlich in AT1-Anleihen aus europäischen finanzstarken Märkten, die auf USD, EUR und GBP lauten. Es wird ein Liquiditäts-Screening durchgeführt und die maximale Gewichtung pro Emittent liegt bei 7,5 %.
