Our approach
to carbon offsetting
At WisdomTree, ‘responsible investing’ is about more than just products; it is about making meaningful changes to the way we operate and being cognisant of the impact our company has. The threat of climate change has never been more immediate, and we recognise that we must use our position to implement positive change and offset any negative environmental effect.
Since 2019, our European operation has been carbon neutral and we see this as our first step towards becoming a net-zero asset manager. We have partnered with Carbon Footprint to calculate our carbon emissions and offset them accordingly by supporting important projects across the globe. All of these projects are Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)/Gold Standard approved and, to date, we have offset over 400 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
We are proud to be supporting a new project to offset 2022 emissions: Zoba Anseba Community Safe Water Project.
The project supports the provision of safe water using borehole technology to hundreds of households in the Zoba Anseba district of Eritrea. Many local people currently use wood fuel on inefficient fires to purify their water, which results in the release of greenhouse gases. This can be avoided by implementing a process that doesn’t require fuel combustion to supply clean water. Additional project benefits include:

Energising India Using Solar Energy Projects
This important project is a step towards supporting the implementation and installation of five grid-connected renewable solar energy power plants in India. The main goal of project activity is to implement renewable energy projects in the country. The significant importance of revenues from sales of carbon credits to achieve this goal, forms the basis of the implementation of this project. Additional project benefits include:
- Generation of employment opportunities during the construction and operation of the project
- Reduce the demand/supply gap in the region
- Demonstrate the power of renewable energy technology

PACAJAI REDD+ PROJECT: helping to reduce deforestation in the Amazonian Rainforest, Brazil
Deforestation is the number one cause of species extinction globally, and the second leading cause of CO2 emissions. By shifting economics to ensure that trees are worth more alive than dead, the Pacajai Redd+ Project helps communities protect their forests for the long-term benefit of us all. Wider project benefits include:
- Protecting the rights of Amazonian people
- Supporting economic development
- Making a stand against climate change

KENYA REFORESTATION: sequestering carbon, providing wildlife habitats and helping a local community
Without great coverage of vegetation in forests, springs and rivers dry up, soil erodes and wildlife emigrates which can cause human-wildlife conflict. This incredible project in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya, is run by Mburu Waiganjo and the benefits run beyond carbon offsetting:
- Offset CO2 emissions
- Reduce poverty through employment
- Provide wildlife habitats in the new forests
- Create a brighter future for project team members, including orphans and people living with HIV/AIDS

About Carbon Footprint
Carbon Footprint is the first choice for hundreds of organisations, ranging from SMEs to multinational blue-chip corporations. They believe in carbon reduction ‘at source’ as the ‘gold standard’ for climate change mitigation. They are also passionate about supporting decarbonisation globally, and as rapidly as possible, which has led them to become the leading carbon offset solutions provider.
As founding members of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for carbon offsetting (see https://qasaudit.com/ for details), they are relied upon by leading brands, and the UK government, to offset emissions.
