Investing in Cardano
Cardano (ADA) was created in 2015 by technologists Charles Hoskinson and Jeremy Wood, both early contributors to Ethereum. Cardano enables owners of ADA, the principal currency on the Cardano network, to operate its network and vote on changes to its software rules. Likewise, developers can use the Cardano blockchain for features including running smart contracts, which allow for the development of decentralised applications. It is one of several competing layer-1 smart contract blockchain networks.
Cardano’s unique approach consists of emphasising its peer-reviewed, research-driven approach to design, which aims to achieve an academic rigour it believes will propel the eventual adoption of its technology.
Users of Cardano need to buy ADA to facilitate transactions and participate in governance. Ownership of the token determines who gets to be a slot leader and add new blocks, and who earns a share of fees paid for transactions in blocks. ADA tokens are also used for voting on software policies, such as its inflation rate, giving participants an incentive to hold ADA and ensure its future value.
